How do you document real life?

Hi, I'm Lauren!
(or rdm, if you prefer the shorter name with the longer story)

I'm 23, a university student and a self-confessed music nerd.

Here you'll find Glee, Disney, Sherlock, fic, musicals, pretty people, pretty things and my ramblings.
Oh and I have a tendency to overshare. Don't say I didn't warn you.

To celebrate the incredibly exciting news that Janelle Monáe and Kimbra will be touring Australia together, I plan to listen (and dance) to their cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin” all day.

Plans (Rynique ficlet)

likearumchocolatesouffle:

Pairing: Ryder/Unique
Rating: PG
Warnings: Sexual situations, dysphoria-adjacent stuff, unbetaed so feel free to tell me about any errors.
Summary: AU where Ryder and Unique first meet as adults. Unique confesses to Ryder that she’s trans right before their first time.
Wordcount: ~700

They stumble into Ryder’s apartment, laughing and maybe just a tiny bit tipsy, still trying to stay attached at the lips as they make their way to the living room. Unique barely gets a look at the place before she’s being pushed backward onto the couch. “I swear, I never do this until at least the sixth date.” She grins up at him.

Ryder stops kissing her neck, looking breathless and a bit concerned. “This is okay right? You don’t have work in the morning or anything?”

"Nope, I can stay as looong as I like."

He smiles and goes for her neck, sucking lightly on the sensitive place by her shoulder, making her gasp. He gets up onto his knees over her and touches her waist, then her hip, and down to her thigh as she squirms and raises her head up to reach his lips. She stops him though when he changes direction, sliding a hand up her leg, starting to lift her skirt.

"Wait, wait." Once he backs off she pulls her skirt back down, blushing. "Um, before we go any farther, there’s something I have to tell you."

avocado pasta

hpgeneration:

no-more-ramen:

A quick and delicious pasta dish with a sauce made from avocados :3~
You’ll need:
1-2 avocados, depending on how much pasta you’re making because you want it to be covered by the avocado ‘sauce’. I usually use two. Slice open the avocados and scoop out the delicious avocado insides into a bowl.

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • A tiny bit of lemon juice
  • Italian seasoning
  • Dried basil (optional, because their is usually basil in italian seasoning but I just like it to be extra basil-y)
  • Olive oil, butter or margarine (I like to use olive oil and margarine just because I like it extra buttery)
  • Nutritional yeast or grated cheese (also optional, but in my experience if you have nut yeast laying around it makes it 1000 x more delicious)
  • Pasta (use gluten-free pasta if you cannot have gluten)

Cook the pasta according to directions on the box.  In a bowl (preferably the bowl you’re about to eat in, because less dishes) mash up the avocado and add all of the seasonings listed above to taste.  When pasta is ready, just add to avocado mixture and mix it all together.  Done!  Sauce is kind of pesto-like and very easy to make.  Also, bright green.

I MADE THIS TODAY! It was super delicious! :D

Some things:
1. One avocado is perfect if you’re making enough for yourself. I used a fairly small avocado and it still generously covered the pasta.
2. Next time I’d be tempted to stick the sauce in the microwave for a little bit just to heat it up - it ended up being a fairly cool pasta dish, so if you want something warm I’d suggest doing that!
3. You might want to blend it/mix it a lot/add more oil if you want it to be really smooth.
Maddy out!

astrakiseki:

This is an idea that’s been coiling in my head for a bit but…

neuroatypical dragons.

Especially lady and non-binary dragons.  A lady dragon who copes by quietly and carefully counting her hoard, and she isn’t greedy, she just- just hates that niggling loose end and it upsets her so much, and people just are such fucking assholes about it.

Or one who fills her lair with a haze of smoke because it makes the place more soothing to her senses.

Or the one who has hollowed out an ice cave in a glacier, who squeezes xir bulk though and wiggles into the tiny, tiny hole when the world is too much.

Or the one who has turned a cliffwall into a clawspeak message board that they and other dragons can communicate on, so they have buffers and can check in on each other without invading their space.

One that hasn’t touched the solid ground for decades and needs to land on soft sands or water because it is just stimulating enough to their claws that they can deal with it.

And stimming for dragons, both happy and stressed.  A dragon doing spirals and spins, or strange exhalations or digging claws in, or getting help from other dragons to invest in glittering claw caps so they don’t bite, or rubbing foul things on their wings so they don’t chew on themselves, and it’s all so normal for them.

I just am having feelings over dragons being like people I know and I.  Having those things being perfectly normal for them, and finding it very annoying that humans demonize them.

ultraofrah1 whispered:
Both Phoebus and John Smith formerly worked for the villain of the film, fell in love with a beautiful dark-skinned woman, were willing to risk their life to save others, got wounded by the villain, and were willing to be punished for insubordination. HOWEVER, which one of the two men do you find the more interesting/favorable/preferable to you, and why?

bemusedlybespectacled:

You’re asking me to choose between my favorite Disney movie now and the one Disney movie that was so my favorite as a child that the tape snapped because it had been watched so many times (incidentally, child!me vastly preferred Thomas over John Smith). Also, I’m really, really white, so I can’t really get into the whole race thing properly. AND I am ignoring the sequels because both of them completely assassinated the characters of the people in question (Phoebus. Racial Profiling. What the actual fuck, Disney).

But first, examining the relationships with adult eyes.

If we were to boil down each of the three principle dudes in HoND to one single line, Quasi is “an angel has smiled at me,” Frollo is “the witch who set this flame,” and Phoebus is “what a woman!” Phoebus alone is the only one who sees her as a person, and their entire interaction while onscreen is there to establish that they like each other as people, and moreover Phoebus finds Esmeralda’s social justice passion and badassery extremely fucking attractive. It’s not intimidating to him, it’s impressive. There’s never a moment where he treats her as a lesser person because of her gender or her race - compare that with John Smith, who does until Pocahontas sings him into submission.

But Phoebus and Esmeralda aren’t the protagonists (that’s Quasi), so they’re not very dynamic characters and doesn’t change terribly much within the text. Let’s compare to John Smith and Pocahontas, who are the protagonists and so therefore have definable character arcs.

Pocahontas starts out carefree and pretty out there (in her first scene, she’s busy cliff diving rather than working, which is why she doesn’t know that the warriors have arrived and she shows up to the ceremony with Kocoum late). She doesn’t know what she wants (beyond just a general sort of excitement and not following what other people expect), and her arc is about finding her own path; which, incidentally, is not John Smith, but being an ambassador between her people and the white people.

John Smith’s arc is about going from a badass racist to… a badass not-racist. Ish. I mean, he does stand up for the oppressed minority and literally takes a bullet for the guy who was about to kill him not two minutes before (which is more than Phoebus does, actually), but there isn’t any realization for him that he’s been a racist to people other than Pocahontas and her people. I mean, it’s established that he has a history of conquering “the uncivilized” that he is proud of and that other people admire, but he doesn’t seem to have a moment of “oh, hurr durr, if my girlfriend is a person worthy of respect, then so is every single person I’ve ever conquered or murdered oh god what have I done.”

Compare to Phoebus, who is clearly uncomfortable with the proceedings from the get-go (“I was summoned from the wars to capture fortune tellers and palm readers?”) and his turning against Frollo is after a lot of buildup and being put in a situation where he can’t either cleverly subvert Frollo’s orders (like pretending Esmeralda had claimed sanctuary) or explain away his own culpability in bad things happening as “just doing my job” (which, incidentally, is one of the many things that sets him apart from Frollo, who can’t take responsibility for anything).

SO BASICALLY AFTER ALL THAT TL;DR:

I like Phoebus better. As much as I squee over John and Pocahontas (and I do), I’m not really into the whole “bad guy gets reformed” deal. I prefer a guy who, while maybe not perfect, is able to learn - and moreover, treats women like people without needing a feminist lecture to do it. Phoebus gets the basics, he just needs to be introduced to a couple of pertinent bloggers. John needs his entire worldview rearranged, and if I were dating him, I would probably stab him to death because he’d need a musical number for every basic concept. “Have you ever heard of privilege or of racism? What the fuck, John, you can’t say shit like thaaaaaat. You need to not be such an oblivious jeeeeeerk, you need to paint with all the colors of the wiiiiiiind…”
