Blaine wakes to a loud crashing bang, sending him flying up from his and Kurt’s bed, looking around the room in bewilderment. He scrubs a hand over his face, willing the sleepiness away as he drags himself up and out of bed, walking towards the living room to locate where the noise came from.

He stops, eyes quickly widening and one hand coming up to card through his hair, freezing mid-through as he stares at the Christmas tree laying on the floor, ornaments spread out all over the floor.

“Kurt?” he says, dropping his hand and looking around. “I don’t think you can talk your way out of this one, sweetie. Just come out, wherever you are.”

There’s a shuffling sound and then Blaine sees Kurt peeking up from behind the back of the couch, blue eyes meeting Blaine’s. Kurt’s ears twitch nervously, and Blaine can’t fight his smile as he crosses his arms over his chest. 

“Care to explain?” he says, and Kurt ducks his head down, going back to hiding again.

Blaine doesn’t have time to change, but that doesn’t stop him from straightening his tie for the fourth time, tugging at the lapels of his blazer until he’s satisfied with how his uniform looks.

It’s been 5 long months since he last saw Kurt, both of them busy with their own high school activities, more than they were when they were freshmen. Blaine has the Warblers now and Kurt’s part of the glee club at McKinley, but they still found an evening they were both free to get coffee and catch up.

Blaine just hopes the butterflies in his stomach settle down by the time he sees Kurt, because he’s not sure why he’s suddenly so nervous - Kurt’s always been one of his closest friends - but every time he thinks about Kurt’s familiar dimpled smile his palms start to sweat.
